The Story Behind Grassroots Culinary Co.

Grassroots Culinary Co. is owned and operated by two chefs and long time friends Jonathan Stormont and Will Davies. The pair met in 2007 when Jonathan was hiring a sous chef for his successful and expanding catering company and restaurant in the Toronto Beaches. At the time, Jonathan’s thriving business was already operating into its tenth year and had set a standard with a large list of executives at some of Toronto’s premiere banks, law firms and entertainment companies. Will joined Jonathan and his wife Jennifer and together they worked tirelessly to continue to add to the company’s reputation over the course of five years.

In 2012, while Jonathan and Jennifer continued to grow their business, Will left to pursue a new challenge in the corporate world of franchised restaurant operations. Will and Jonathan stayed in constant communication throughout the years, including time spent together working on occasional private events when possible.

In 2018 Will was approached to purchase a catering company where he first apprenticed in 2000. Without hesitation, Will approached Jonathan with the potential venture and it was quickly agreed it was time “to put the old band back together”.

This joint venture not only brings Jonathan and Will back together, but sends Will back to where he got his start. It’s a fresh homecoming and a revitalization. It’s not a start, it’s a continuance. It’s an opportunity to continue to amaze our valued clients, embrace new challenges, and most importantly.....a place to set up Roots.

With over 50 years of combined experience in both corporate and boutique in home dining, Jonathan and Will can tailor any menu to suit the needs of a client. With influences from Classic French Cuisine-to Neo Japanese-to-Modernist, our clients can be assured that they will receive inspired, eclectic, and delicate cuisine.
